What is the role?
Applications are sought from suitably applicants wishing to be considered for an Intelligence officer role with Security Operations team in Security Command.
An Intelligence officer within Security Operations is responsible for collecting, collating, analysing and disseminating intelligence and providing actionable insights in support of Security Command functions. The team undertakes a variety of critical functions including:
Assessing threats to AFP appointees, systems and assets;
Delivering the AFP’s Domestic Threat Assessment; and
Security assessments for AFP appointees international travel;
Intelligence Officers in Security work as part of a team to analyse collected and collated information to produce and disseminate intelligence which influences organisational decision-making at all levels. They communicate effectively and with influence with a range of stakeholders to achieve security and operational outcomes.
This position is assigned the Operations Working Pattern and required to work flexibly in accordance with the working pattern requirements as outlined in the AFP’s enterprise agreement.
What will you do?
Proactively plan, collect, collate and analyse information to produce and disseminate intelligence.
Work collaboratively with the Security Operations team, as well as with other members in the AFP.
Collect, triage and assess information of intelligence value.
Brief stakeholders, both in writing and orally.
Record information and intelligence appropriately.
Identify and interpret information and data obtained in an ethical manner, which is then used to inform assessments and reach conclusions to meet a specified user requirement.
Maintain currency in intelligence concepts and methods through ongoing professional development and learning; and
Maintain your knowledge and understanding of the underpinning concept of security, risk and threat management.
Requirements (or demonstrate an ability to acquire)
Ability to assess, evaluate and analyse information to develop arguments using logic and evidence.
Ability to produce succinct and accurate intelligence products with high attention to detail.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to engage, cooperate and collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders.
Resilience and the ability to adjust to constructive feedback from peers and to prioritise tasks to meet changing deadlines.
Demonstrate self-awareness and a commitment to personal development.
Contemporary experience in an intelligence role, or a sound understanding of the role of intelligence in law enforcement.
Proven and applied data literacy, information management and research skills.
Maintaining ethical behaviour and demonstrating commitment to AFP Values.
Essential Requirements
You must be an Australian Citizen
Hold a Negative Vetting 2 Security Clearance or the ability to obtain one
Relevant qualifications or experience in policing, security or intelligence.
A proven ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally
Demonstrated ability to work flexibly and achieve outcomes in a dynamic environment
