**Who we are**
The Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) is part of the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. As primary agency for Australia's Antarctic Program (AAP), the AAD is responsible for achieving the Australian Government's Antarctic goals. These goals are to:

- maintain the Antarctic Treaty System and enhance Australia's influence within it
- protect the Antarctic environment
- understand the role of Antarctica in the global climate system
- undertake scientific work of practical, economic and national significance.

The AAD also has responsibility for administering the Australian Antarctic Territory and the Territory of Heard and McDonald Islands.

The Assets and Infrastructure Branch provides and maintains the equipment and infrastructure to support the Australian Antarctic Program. This ranges from maintenance of existing assets through to developing or procuring new assets and capability.

The Mechanical Section is a service-based group providing support to the Australian Antarctic Program through the provision of power generation, mobile plant and operational support.

**The Job**
The Maintenance Planner will provide support to the Antarctic Infrastructure and Mechanical Sections by:

- Reviewing and update existing planned maintenance strategies in terms of task, frequency and risk to optimise use of labour and materials to ensure statutory compliance and safe and efficient operation.
- Assist the Kingston based Trade Supervisors to plan, schedule and execute annual maintenance plans to deliver compliant reliable and safe operation of all stations.
- Update and correct the Asset Register within the AAD’s computerised maintenance management system. (Maximo)
- Assist in the development of plans to ensure all mandatory and regulatory maintenance is executed to the required level and within the nominated time frames. Plan and schedule specialist maintenance campaigns when required.
- Contribute to the establishment of new maintenance initiatives to improve availability, reliability and cost effectiveness of station operations.
- Assist in the development of Job instructions and Safety procedures for planned maintenance tasks.
- Develop Recommended Parts Listings (RPL’s) for key infrastructure and equipment. Assist with any proposed integration of the CMMS with spare parts inventory management.
- Champion a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

**What we are looking for**

**Knowledge and experience**
- Understand the fundamentals of maintenance strategies and condition monitoring techniques.
- Experience with CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management Systems) such as Maximo.
- Experience managing worklist and coordinating/scheduling of task across various trade disciplines.
- Experience developing maintenance documentation and schedules for assets based on OEM manuals, best practices, regulatory standards and trade knowledge.
- Knowledge and experience of plant and equipment that is maintained across various trade disciplines.
- A good comprehension of safety standards to support trade-based activities.

**Skills and capabilities**
- Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively liaise with engineering and maintenance trades to develop and deliver maintenance planning activities.
- Strong understanding of Mechanical & Electrical maintenance concepts and requirements.
- Strong written skills for the development of technical job plans.
- Systematic approach to maintaining consistency across all aspects of CMMS and maintenance planning activities.
- Ability to continuously improve the maintenance planning approach and system as maintenance strategies evolve.

Please note that the successful applicant may be required to travel to the Antarctic and sub-Antarctic regions therefore they may be required to meet specific medical, adaptability and personal qualities requirements appropriate to working in those environments.

In order to undertake travel to the Antarctic & sub-Antarctic regions they will need to:

- demonstrate the range of personal qualities and interpersonal skills necessary to perform as a successful team member within isolated Antarctic and sub-Antarctic environments
- demonstrate an ability to effectively adapt and respond to the demands of living and working in an isolated and confined environment as determined by a psychological (adaptability) assessment
- be certified as fit for Antarctic service by the AAD’s Polar Medicine Unit.

**Desirable qualifications**
- A trade qualification in a mechanical, electrical or building trade discipline is desirable.
