- Australian Antarctic Division construction and planning team are seeking an experienced project planner, capable of balancing a dynamic and exciting construction program.
- You will be capable of working across teams to ensure best outcomes for the current program of work while also looking ahead to 2 and 5 year horizons.

**Who we are**
The Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) is part of the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. As primary agency for Australia's Antarctic Program (AAP), the AAD is responsible for achieving the Australian Government's Antarctic goals.

These goals are to:

- maintain the Antarctic Treaty System and enhance Australia's influence within it
- protect the Antarctic environment
- understand the role of Antarctica in the global climate system
- undertake scientific work of practical, economic and national significance.

The AAD also has responsibility for administering the Australian Antarctic Territory and the Territory of Heard and McDonald Islands.

The Assets and Technology (A&T) Branch provides and maintains the equipment and infrastructure to support the AAP. A&T Branch activities range from the maintenance of existing Antarctic stations and equipment through to the design, manufacture, testing, operation and procurement of advanced scientific equipment and systems. The Branch manages major infrastructure projects in support of AAP outcomes.

The Construction Projects Section is a key element of A&T and is responsible for the management, maintenance and engineering development of the built infrastructure at Australia’s Antarctic and sub-Antarctic stations. The section consists of an expeditioner workforce that carries out construction activities at the Antarctic and sub-Antarctic stations and, engineering and technical management group at the AAD’s head office in Kingston, Tasmania. It works closely with Design & Engineering and Antarctic Infrastructure Operations & Maintenance teams to deliver and maintain all critical life support systems.

**The Job**
The Project Planner will be responsible for the preparation and management of the integrated project planning within the infrastructure team. Manage a comprehensive schedule control system, including day-to-day planning activities and include advanced planning, scheduling, progress measurements, change management implementation and analysis for a complex project. Working in conjunction with internal and external project staff reporting to the Manager Construction, this position will provide comprehensive project planning, resource planning and allocation, identification of key milestones, critical tasks and support project team members with their respective areas of responsibility. The Project Planner will work with limited supervision from the Manager Construction to support construction and project planning and on-station activities.

In this role you will:

- Support the building and updating short
- and long-term construction project planning.
- Establishing framework for all project planning activities in relation to the development of any systems, policies or procedures.
- Reviewing and update existing project plans in terms of task, frequency and risk to optimise use of labour and materials to ensure statutory compliance and safe and efficient operation.
- Assist the Kingston based Trade Supervisors to plan, schedule and execute annual maintenance plans to deliver compliant reliable and safe operation of all stations.
- Provide reporting to project managers and manager construction to support decision making and prioritisation of projects.
- Utilise project planning systems including but not limited to MS project and Maximo.
- Plan and schedule specialist projects when required.
- Contribute to the establishment of new project governance initiatives to improve availability, reliability and cost effectiveness of project delivery in Antarctica and head office.
- Champion a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

**What we are looking for**

**Knowledge and experience**

The required skills are:

- Demonstrated experience in long term and short-term planning to support forecasting resources and budgets.
- Demonstrated experience in project controls and time/schedule management.
- Demonstrated experience level using project scheduling tools, MS Project, Primavera P6 Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI.
- Proficient experience with MS Office Suite, MS Visio and MS Project.
- Understand and use Project performance indicators used to measure project progress (Success Probability Trends, Schedule KPI, Critical Tasks, etc).
- Prior experience preparing project performance reports by considering earned value, planned budget, actuals and accruals.

**Skills and capabilities**
Under broad direction from the Project Manager this position will:

- Implement Project Planning & Scheduling plans and procedures, reflectin
