**We are currently looking for suitably experienced and enthusiastic Emergency Medicine Consultants to join our team.**

The South Metropolitan Health Service (SMHS) presents Emergency Medicine Consultants a new opportunity, to work within our flagship tertiary hospital, in addition to providing expert medical care in our regional / local hospital(s). Successful applicants will divide their time between SMHS tertiary ED work and SMHS outer metro ED work.

Joint positions are located across:

- **Fiona Stanley Hospital** (FSH) and **Peel Health Campus** (PHC), or
- **Rockingham General Hospital** (RGH) and **Peel Health Campus** (PHC).

Roles can be joint/proportionate at these sites with flexible FTE. There are currently 7 FTE permanent positions available across SMHS for multi-site appointment with up to 3.5FTE at Peel Health Campus.

This is a recruitment pool to fill permanent full time and permanent part time, sessional, fixed term full time and fixed term part time appointments, with the possibility of extension(s). Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments may be made when similar vacancies occur. Appointments may be made from this pool until 03/09/2024.

This is the best of both worlds - everything a tertiary facility can provide plus the community connection that local and general hospital emergency services offer.

**About our services**

All our emergency departments provide 24-hour, 7-day-a-week emergency care for adults and children with an illness or injury that requires urgent attention or is too complex to be managed in a general practitioner's rooms.

**Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH) Emergency Department**

FSH provides tertiary-level adult and paediatric emergency services including:

- Separate entries, triage and treatment areas for adults and children
- 51 beds in the adult assessment areas, including trauma and resuscitation, acute assessment and ambulatory care, with a bay equipped to manage paediatric and neonatal presentations within the trauma and resuscitation area
- 15 emergency short stay beds in the adult area
- 15 beds in the paediatric assessment area, including acute assessment and a short stay area
- Chest pain, toxicology and geriatric falls specialised emergency workflows
- Direct access lift to the helipad and medical imaging
- Easy access to the intensive care unit, coronary care unit, operating theatres, trauma, burns, maternity and cardiac wards.

**Peel Health Campus (PHC) Emergency Department**
- The emergency department at Peel Health Campus currently sees over 45,000 patients per year and is staffed by an experienced and caring multidisciplinary team of professionals dedicated to the health and wellbeing of the hospital's patients.
- The emergency department currently includes:

- 22 treatment bays between the acute and subacute areas,
- plus 5 consult rooms, and
- 16 short stay beds.
- PHC ED has state-of-the-art equipment, with access to:

- A range of medical imaging services on-site
- Short-stay rooms and facilities
- Inpatient services (General Surgery, General Medicine, Paediatrics and O&G)
- treats a variety of patient presentations ranging from minor acute pathologies to major resuscitations of all age groups
- Work with a friendly, dynamic and hands-on group of Consultants who between them have a broad spectrum of interests in Emergency Medicine including toxicology, ultrasound, simulation, advanced airway management and education.
- Opportunity to instruct on courses including, ALS, EMST, ETM, APLS and Neonatal resuscitation.
- The clinical work here is varied, challenging and rewarding. There is extensive opportunity to be involved in critical care cases, inter-hospital transfers of critically unwell patients, toxicology cases, procedural sedation and airway management.
- No nights (except on call) - Registrars on nights.
