We are delighted to announce that we are looking for a Safety Advisor who will develop SMS documentation to support the business, coordinate the drug and alcohol management program as required and provide governance for the SMS.

The Safety Advisor will champion SER with leadership and communication skills. They will have a firm grasp of Risk Management principles and practices and a working knowledge of legal and systems compliance requirements.

You will manage the delivery of the corporate Safety Management and SER Improvement Plans by advising, coordinating operational managers, teams and peers’ safety activities.

Key Areas of Responsibility
- Provide advice and assistance to personnel in the understanding and implementation of Metro Trains' objectives, targets, policies, and procedures contained within the SMS.
- Maintain existing Standards, Procedures, Guidelines and Forms in line with best practice and legislation
- Lead the development and implementation of processes that enables MTM to effectively respond to changing workforce requirements (includes internal mobility, redeployment, and demobilisation).
- Maintain strong and open working relationships with external interface parties.
- Develop and implement training, initiatives or programs to promote WHS or as required
- Provide corporate governance through assurance activities (audits and inspections) across all elements of the SMS.
- Provide advice to the coordinator and provider of the MTM Drug and Alcohol Program and ensure reporting requirements are met.
- Develop Induction and training programs as required cooperatively with HR, Metro Academy, L&D and operations teams
- Participate in and provide information to any audit, inspection or investigation as required to external authorities or as reasonably requested by internal stakeholders.

About You
- Tertiary qualification in Health, Safety, Risk Management or Business Management or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Act (2004), Regulations, Compliance Codes and Australian Standards
- Knowledge of Rail Safety National Law Act 2012 and Rail Safety National Law Regulations 2012, Dangerous Goods Act (1985)
- Advanced working knowledge of safety (OH&S) management systems
- Ability to schedule work to meet deadlines, including prioritising and controlling of workloads, whilst maintaining a professional manner
- Ability to analyse and interpret data and write and present reports, to complete complex tasks
- Ability to think systematically and to connect strategically complex pieces of work both current and into the future whilst minimising risk and ensuring compliance
- Previous experience facilitating workshops
- High level of effective stakeholder management and negotiating and influencing skills with excellent written and oral skills
- Strong stakeholder management experience to work collaboratively and build strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
- Solid report writing, analytical ability and critical thinking with the ability to work autonomously.
