Please note: Due to Machinery of Government changes under Section 30 of the Public Administration Act (PAA), effective 1 January 2023, your employment will be with the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action. Corporate Services, including payroll, will be provided by the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions while a process for the formal transfer of staff in impacted areas is implemented.
The Laboratory Assistant works collaboratively within the Laboratory Management Team (LMT), who provide a range of general laboratory support services to scientists at AgriBio, enabling research teams to focus on scientific outcomes. While this role is primarily responsible for equipment and contractor management, the Laboratory Assistant will also be trained in the full range of LMT services, including waste and PPE management, delivering face-to-face staff inductions, completing administrative tasks, front counter services at the central store, stocking of satellite stores and receipt of deliveries at the loading dock.
The key accountabilities of the role include, but are not limited to:
- Respond efficiently to requests for ad hoc equipment repairs, following approved processes and maintaining complete and accurate records.
- Schedule preventative maintenance services for key groups of equipment, following approved processes and maintaining complete and accurate records.
- Manage contractors working at AgriBio by providing face-to-face inductions, maintaining records of required licences and training and providing contractors with formal work orders specifying onsite work requirements.
**Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications**
- A tertiary qualification in science or experience working in a laboratory is desirable.
**This is a fixed term position available for a period 3 years. The work location for this position is Bundoora.**
