**VERGER - EMPLOYMENT OPORTUNITY**

**General**
The primary role of the Verger is to ensure that all events carried out on the St Luke’s campus are safe, secure and well managed.

The Verger shall be of a Christian faith and a trustworthy person of good character. They shall be offered opportunities to train as required with particular emphasis on safety and security. The Verger must express a commitment to engaging uniformed personnel as and when necessary and must not, for any reason, put themselves in harm’s way.

**Worship Service Duties**

CovidSafe requirements (see our CovidSafe policy) and monitoring the progress of those in attendance.

Given the presence of weapons in the service on several occasions, in such an emergency the Verger shall give direction that will ensure the safe exit of all peoples from the buildings. They shall engage a police presence and shall do so without any danger to self (see our evacuation policy).

**Maintenance of the grounds**
The Verger shall maintain the grounds, along with all Church buildings so that they present in a tidy and orderly fashion. This will involve the removal of rubbish, the cleaning of facilities and any repairs required. They shall coordinate with the Parish Administrator to secure the services of all specialist cleaners or tradespeople as required.

The Verger shall be provided will all PPE necessary to conduct these tasks in a manner that is safe and efficient.

**Outreach**
The Verger shall, in cooperation with the Vicar and the Parish Administrator, arrange for and manage all visiting teams that come into the Parish. These shall be in attendance for the purposes of outreach, service of the community and support of Sunday and midweek worship.

**Position Purpose**

**Accountabilities**:

- Point of Contact _
Assist the public in any queries related to the Parish, service or associated programs in order to help others out and provide relevant information.

The Verger shall, in cooperation with the Vicar and the Parish Administrator, arrange for and manage all visiting teams that come into the Parish. These shall be in attendance for the purposes of outreach, service of the community and support of Sunday and midweek worship.
- Services _
Oversee and coordinate the facilities and equipment required to perform the services to ensure that the equipment is available when required.

- Building management _
Oversee and manage the overall requirements of the building including general tidiness of the building inside and out, ensuring that safety precautions are in place and security risk to the building is minimised.

**Knowledge, Experience and Skills**:

- Minimum year 12
- Hold a current Police Check and Working with Children Check
- Understanding of Anglican worship practice, preferably previous liturgical
- The Melbourne Anglican Diocese is committed to child safe practice, we participation require all applicants to undergo a screening process prior to appointment and successful applicants must comply with the Diocese's child safe policy and child safe code of conduct.
