**ABOUT THE BRANCH & SECTION**

The SDO is a leader in providing services under the Whole-of-Government Shared Services Program. The SDO presents a unique opportunity to be involved in developing innovative service delivery arrangements, with an approach to collaborating and sharing of resources that has the potential to add value not only for existing client agencies but to set the scene for new ways of working across the Australia Public Service.

The Operations and Service Management Branch is one of two branches within the SDO and provides a range of corporate transactional services to Commonwealth agencies in areas of human resources, payroll, finance and travel and expense management. The Branch works collaboratively with client agencies on delivering services more efficiently, through streamlining processes, increase self-service capability and automating repeatable tasks, to allow staff to focus on high-value, customer service based activities.

The Service Excellence team is responsible for supporting the SDO to continuously improve its business and achieve a high standard of productivity through establishing and monitoring customer experience business improvement activities. The PACE team are responsible for pursuing intelligent automation and other cutting edge technologies, building a consistent, well-governed approach to process automation for the SDO and across government.

**ABOUT THE** OPPORTUNITY**

The Automation Team Leader is a critical role to the Productivity Automation Centre of Excellence (PACE) and is responsible for the smooth operation of the Robotic Process Automation (RPA) environment. This involves managing people, resources and governance through:

- Leading the PACE team to deliver RPA solutions through:

- Managing a small team of automation practitioners
- Overseeing best-practice design for automation and updating design standards as required
- Management of the technical environment including liaison with departmental ICT on infrastructure, licencing and trouble shooting
- Management of the control room team for automations already in production (20+ active automations) including scheduling, capacity management, exception identification and management, performance management and reporting
- Ensuring governance and procedures are in alignment with the Robotic Operating Model and maturing the PACE Operating Model
- Leading development and improvement initiatives, and
- Reporting on the value and benefits of the RPA solutions developed
- Managing, mentoring and providing technical support to the automation developers through strong leadership and effective line management
- Partnering with business areas across the SDO to develop fit for purpose automation solutions addressing a wide range of business process challenges
- Working with the Director and other SDO team leads to refine the strategic road map of the PACE function ensuring alignment with Divisional and whole-of-Government shared service strategic objectives.
- Working with colleagues across teams, contributing to divisional leadership group discussions and projects in the delivery of outcomes aligned with integrated business planning for the branch, division and department.
- Reviewing changes in technology and recommending new automation products that could be adopted.
