**Ngā kawenga - About the role**

Rail Investigators undertake thorough accident site examinations and evidence collection, review, research and analyse the evidence, before producing inquiry reports, finding and recommendations for the Commission.

We’re looking to expand our rail team and are looking for two rail experts to join the Wellington, New Zealand team as Investigators.

**Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako - Skills and experience**

Ideally, you’ll be degree qualified and have an extensive rail background. While we’re very keen to hear from those with civil and track engineering or rail traction experience, we are particularly interested in those with rail transport infrastructure, or rolling stock expertise.

Alongside this, you will have excellent communication skills - a key part of an Investigator’s work is writing significant and robust investigation reports and ably articulating any aspect of the accident investigation to audiences of any level.
- excellent analytical and problem solving capability, with very strong attention to detail
- an innate ability to think logically, anticipate risk, and identify solutions
- proven project management experience
- outstanding relationship management skills
- knowledge and experience, or a willingness to learn about Te Tiriti, Tikanga, te reo and te ao Māori.
- the emotional and psychological maturity to handle stressful and emotionally difficult situations - as well as being medically and physically fit.

Given the nature of investigative work, you’ll need to be agile, able to work collaboratively and positively with like-minded professionals, and have high levels of diplomacy, tact and professionalism, particularly when deployed to accident sites. This role will involve travel and overnight stays.

**Utu ā-tau - Salary**

The salary range for this role is $89,600 - $159,600, and appointment within the range will be based on skills and experience.
