**Position**: Health Navigation Volunteer
**Program Area**: Health
**Purpose / Objective**:Provide culturally appropriate support to clients who are referred to the ASC Health program
**Reports to**:Health Manager
**Commitment Period**:Minimum 3 months
**Days and hours required per week**:One day per week, Monday to Thursday and hours between 9.30 am and 4 pm. Usually, only a period of 4-5 hours is required within these hours.
**Training**:
ASC Orientation Session and Health Induction Training.
**Location**:
The volunteer must be willing to do face to face work at our ASC offices.

**Duties & Responsibilities**:

- Provide culturally appropriate assistance to the people we support who are open in the ASC Health program.
- Provide assistance to the people we support to navigate the healthcare system.
- To use a phone interpreter, TIS (translating international Service) if and when required
- Working with the ASC Health team to understand people’s backgrounds and arrange appointments on their behalf
- Assist the people we support to attend their health appointments in a timely and safe manner
- Ensure you can provide their health provider with relevant details about the clients
- Likely Locations to accompany clients: The Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Outpatient Pharmacy, St Vincent's Clinic Imaging & Nuclear Medicine, UNSW Optometry Clinic, Teachers Health Centre, Parramatta
- Empower the people we support to gain independence and be able to navigate the healthcare system, use phone navigation and public transport system on their own
- Maintain communication with ASC Health staff regarding completed calls, appointments, issues or questions.
- To document activity in ASC database CIVICRM

**Selection Criteria**
- Experience in working with people from various backgrounds and cultures
- Ability to work collaboratively with other staff and volunteers
- Flexibility and willingness to take on extra tasks as appropriate
- Ability to adhere to policies in relation to code of conduct, boundaries and confidentiality
- Speaking a second language is highly appreciated

- Act at all times in accordance with ASC’s Code of Conduct, Confidentiality and Child Protection Policies
- Comply with Work, Health and Safety systems
- Comply with Incident Management Procedures and emergency protocols
- Demonstrate respectful and welcoming behaviour with all people at ASC in culturally appropriate ways
- Undertake a NSW Working with Children Check prior to commencement and ensure it is up-to-date
- Support a child-safe organisation by undertaking screening for suitability to work with children and vulnerable people and to comply with relevant state/territory legislative requirements
- Volunteers will be reimbursed for all reasonable travel and pre-approved expenses.
