**Expression of Interest - VMO Clinical Gastroenterology - Interventional Endoscopy**

Northern Beaches Hospital (NBH) is currently seeking expressions of interest for the position of Visiting Medical Officer, Gastroenterology with a special interest in interventional endoscopy.

NBH is a tertiary university teaching hospital with Level 5 and 6 delineation services treating both private and public patients. The hospital features 488 beds, a 50-bed Emergency Department, 20-bed general and cardiothoracic ICU, 14 fully equipped theatres, including hybrid theatres, two cardiac catheter labs and four procedure rooms and a state of the art education and interactive SIM centre.

As a valued member of our Gastroenterology team, you will provide expertise in the clinical management and treatment of patients in the Northern Beaches Hospital (NBH) Gastroenterology Unit, whilst maintaining safe, effective and professional care for patients within the Northern Beaches community. You will provide support and promote seamless continuity of care between inpatient and outpatient services.

You will be joining a team of 7 gastroenterologists supported by a BPT and JMO team for inpatient support

**Key responsibilities**:

- To provide inpatient and outpatient services and deliver clinical care to patients that is evidence based and patient centered and to provide consultation services to patients as requested by other specialties;
- To participate in an on-call roster for general gastroenterology and ERCP and associated duties as required and participate in meetings and committees as requested by the Head of Unit and/or Chief Medical Officer;
- To participate in consolidating current services and actively participate in initiatives to promote growth, enhance the reputation and help identify clinical areas for expansion in the department;
- To provide leadership to the junior clinical staff of the service and undertake training and education of junior medical staff and registrars and ensure they are well supported;
- Maintain professional knowledge through a commitment to ongoing learning and development;
- Visiting Medical Officers work as part of the health care team, adhere to Healthscope By-Laws and NBH policies and procedures, participate in working groups (as required), demonstrate a commitment to quality improvement through National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards & EQuIPNational, Work Health and Safety (WHS) and achievement of NBH accreditation.

**To be successful in the role you will**:

- Hold a medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) and be registrable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA);
- Hold Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent and have Conjoint Committee for Recognition of Training in Endoscopy including ERCP.
- Demonstrate recent clinical and interventional experience as a Gastroenterologist including competencies in upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, small bowel enteroscopy, and ERCP. Experience in wireless capsule endoscopy, EUS, and other more advanced interventions would be considered advantageous.
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of issues relating to professional practice, clinical governance, clinical ethics, clinical teaching and clinical leadership;
- Demonstrate high level of competence in interpersonal skills, consultation and effective communication with staff of the hospital including VMOs, Junior Medical staff and members of the multi-disciplinary team and proficiency in information technology;
- Demonstrate a commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement.
