Eden Ritchie is seeking a Principal Policy and Legislation Officer to conduct research and analysis on Department issues with a view to progressing the Attorney-General’s policy and legislative priorities. As an experienced officer, you will work autonomously on complex projects and lead team projects, including consultation with key stakeholders to identify suitable policy and legislative solutions; and effectively communicate these to management and where appropriate, senior management and key stakeholders. The role reports to the Manager, Policy and Legislation.

**As the Principal Policy and Legislation Officer, your key responsibilities will include**:

- Lead or undertake the more complex policy and legislation work of the Office of Regulatory Policy by conducting research and analysis, and developing options to solve problems relevant to responsible Department practices and to help markets work fairly
- Contribute to the development and implementation of legislative or other regulatory or non-regulatory options associated with the government’s legislative and strategic policy agenda
- Prepare high quality written documentation such as briefing notes, Cabinet submissions, discussion papers, regulatory impact analysis, drafting instructions, presentations, ministerial correspondence and reports across the agency’s scope of responsibilities
- Lead or participate in projects as required and provide project management of complex activities ensuring outputs satisfy standards and strategic objectives, including providing guidance to and coordinating the work of less experienced officers
- Communicate and negotiate with internal and external parties on policy and legislation development work as required and/or directed, including representing the agency at intra and inter-government forums, undertaking community and peak body consultation, and providing impartial, forthright and accurate advice to senior officers
- Work in team environments, including participation in or leading small policy teams and providing guidance and support to less experienced officers
- Other Office of Regulatory Policy duties as directed
