Caseworker

Ungooroo Aboriginal Corporation is seeking an experienced Caseworker to join the new
Permanency Support Program (PSP) team. The Caseworker will work to achieve permanent
outcomes for children who have come into statutory care with a focus on safety, permanency and
the wellbeing of children, young people, their families, and kin.
Although this is not an identified position, we strongly encourage Aboriginal people to apply.
The role may be offered on a fulltime or part-time basis.

**Responsibilities include**:

- Coordinate wrap around therapeutic case

management to promote permanency outcomes of
children and young people in the PSP
- Provide culturally appropriate and sensitive care
- Facilitate a permanency pathway for children and

young people of either Restoration, Guardianship,
Open Adoption or Foster Care
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive case files

that meet both legislative and organisational
requirements
- Participate and contribute to the team and

organisational structure
- Always maintain absolute confidentiality in relation

to the clients and the operation of the service
- Develop and manage stakeholder relationships

with families and other community service
providers including the Department of
Communities and Justice

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to be child focused and work

collaboratively with families and kin and
stakeholders
- Good problem-solving, communication, listening,

writing, and planning skills
- Undertake all duties in a diligent manner, with

honesty and integrity
Selection Criteria
- Qualification in Social Welfare, Social Work,

Psychology, or a related field, preferably at degree level
(working towards) or extensive experience working
with vulnerable families.
- Significant experience working in a case

management/coordination role or a permanency
pathway planner under the new PSP program.
- Experience working with children/young people,

parents/carers and families with a high commitment to
child inclusive practice and best practice case work
principles.
- A working understanding of the Child Protection, PSP

and Adoption legislation
- Ability to build strong working relationships and

motivate others to progress the most appropriate
permanency pathway options in a timely manner.
- Ability to engage with birth families from a place of

compassion and neutrality.
- Experience in conducting assessments and report

writing for Court.
- Evidenced capacity to ensure all data, records and case

plans are maintained according to set timeframes and
quality standards.
- Sound understanding of child development, trauma

and attachment theory.
- Proven commitment to work flexible hours as required

for program success, including On Call roster.
- Knowledge and understanding of issues affecting

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Commitment to Aboriginal community empowerment

and development
