The Collective on Anti-Racism (COAR) was nurtured on the stolen lands of Ngunnawal and Ngambri Country. We seek to curate anti-racist spaces in Canberra. We run a monthly anti-racist BIPOC-centred discussion group and hold small monthly community events for the BIPOC community. We also use our platforms to strengthen and celebrate the BIPOC communities in Canberra.

We are seeking a Finance Officer (Volunteer Role) to join our Committee and be part of continuing the financial viability of our organisation.

**The role of the Finance Officer is as follows**:

- Research and identify grants that align with COAR’s mission, goals, and target audiences. This includes government grants, private foundations, corporate giving programs, and philanthropic organisations. Keep an eye on new opportunities by subscribing to grant databases, newsletters, and joining relevant associations or networks.

Event Budgeting and Tracking:

- Annual Budgeting: Plan and allocate budgets for all events, including expected costs and potential revenue.
- Expense Monitoring: Track event spending and adjust as needed to stay within budget, negotiating with vendors for better rates. In particular, ensure that spending received from grant funding is maintained within that envelope received.

Financial Health Oversight:

- Bank Account Management: Ensure proper handling of income and expenses, reconciling accounts and maintaining accuracy.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare periodic reports to track the COAR’s financial position and make informed decisions.
- Financial Acquittal: Prepare funding acquittal for Programs/ Projects that successfully received grant funding.

You will be supported by the Collective Manager and COAR Committee, but will be expected to work independently and take initiative. This is a volunteer role, with the possibility of remuneration, dependent on grants.

**A total of approximately 12-15 hours of work a month will be required for this position.**
