The Fire Compliance and Hydraulics Manager provides operational and contract management of Fire compliance related works, Hydraulics building services and infrastructure for the University’s built assets. The role of the Fire Compliance and Hydraulics Manager works in conjunction with the Facilities Services Discipline Leads. The Fire Compliance and Hydraulics Manager provides high level operational and specialist technical support for the project management and the estate improvement team.

This position reports to the Senior Manager, Building Maintenance and has no direct reports.

**Responsibilities**
- Lead and liaise within the various teams of Estate Management and external BCA consultants to ensure that all Fire Compliance requirements are addressed at design, construction, and commissioning phases.
- Oversee and manage all associated inspection and testing documentation is to a standard required by UNSW and proactively advise and put forward recommendations to the Estate Management Executive Team.
- Act as a central contact for fire compliance and fire engineering related matters at UNSW Sydney, working closely with all business units across Estate Management.
- Proactively manage the accredited practitioner and building manger sign off, of the schedule of fire safety measures, including site inspections. Ensure minimum standards of performance are met, including monitoring, and understanding new fire safety designs or systems improvements undertaken each year.
- Proactively manage the quality and effectiveness of Fire Systems and Hydraulic maintenance and repair contracts, track the performance and administration of the Fire and Hydraulic service provider in accordance with the established Service Level Agreements.

**Skills and Experience**
- An appropriate building services trade and/or facilities management qualification with extensive experience in Fire compliance as well as Building maintenance, operational management, planning, budgeting, and financial management.
- Substantial experience in operational management of Fire Compliance and Hydraulic Systems maintenance and repair contracts in a large and complex property portfolio.
- Ability to assess and understand alternative building solutions and Fire Engineering reports.
- Extensive knowledge of the fire certification/statement process.
- Ability to conduct Inspections against relevant standards of performance/maintenance.
- Demonstrated experience in contract and contractor management and operational supervision including developing and maintaining professional working relationships.
- Highly developed interpersonal, organisational and communication skills with excellent track record in providing quality customer service. This includes a strong understanding of FM as a value-added service and the ability to work in a collaborative effort to create opportunities and develop solutions.
- Proven ability to work effectively and collaboratively on initiatives with a range of people at different levels within an organisation, demonstrating problem-solving skills with a proven capacity to develop solutions.
- Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of relevant building standards, such as NSW Codes of Practice, AS1851, AS2118, AS1670 and other Fire/Hydraulic related Australian Standards, WHS Standards, NCC etc.
