About the branch
The Inquiries, Prosecutions and Administrative Law Branch comprises a number of legal teams that provide specialist legal services and advice to the State in relation to; regulation, administrative law and disciplinary reviews, Inquiries and Royal Commissions.
The Inquiries teams provide specialist legal services and legal advice in relation to Inquiries and Royal Commissions including:

- Establishment of Royal Commissions (exclusive services)
- Management of notices to produce including document review
- Witness and hearing preparation
- Briefing and instructing counsel
- State submissions and strategic responses
- Project management and reporting

The Administrative and Regulatory Law teams provide litigation services and legal advice in the following areas:

- Merits review of administrative decisions and related court proceedings
- Investigations and criminal procedure
- Business and occupational licensing
- Conduct reviews, professional disciplinary proceedings and summary prosecutions
- Freedom of information, information sharing and privacy
- Integrity body inquiries

About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a number of enthusiastic and motivated Paralegals to join the Inquiries, Prosecutions & Administrative Law Branch and work alongside highly experienced and passionate solicitors.
These roles will provide support across all streams of work undertaken by the branch, with day to day duties including:

- Assisting with inquiry and court preparation, including discovery related tasks and general document management
- Legal research
- Drafting correspondence, briefs to counsel and relevant documents
- Preparing daily summaries of inquiry hearings
- Taking minutes of meetings (both internal and external)
- Liaising with clients, counsel and solicitors to assist VGSO solicitors
- Assisting with legal support administrative duties as required

Skills and experience
- Prior experience working as a Paralegal
- A demonstrated ability to perform high quality legal research
- Previous experience with document management/discovery related tasks would be highly desirable
- Excellent attention to detail and consistent high standards of work
- Ability to ‘think on your feet' and work independently in the absence of specific instruction
- Superior time management skills and the ability to multi-task and meet relevant deadlines
- Ability to appropriately deal with sensitive and highly confidential information
