**Role**:
The Calm Learning Space is positioned within the library and is part of our suite of services provided by the Wellbeing Team. This space has been developed to support students who may find it difficult to manage a full day at school without additional support and/or the option of timeout from scheduled classes. Students who use the space generally have difficulty self-regulating due to anxiety, poor impulse control, or general emotional dysregulation. Criteria for inclusion include: complex mental health concerns; neurodivergence; and significant school refusal. Referrals to the CLS will be triaged with a maximum cap of 30 students on the program at any given time. Priority is given to Year 7 and Year 8 students as we support them to make a successful transition to secondary school. Students accepted to the program must have the capacity to respect the safety rights of other students and staff.
Goals of CLS involvement include:
- Increased school attendance
- Fewer incidences of emotional or behavioural dysregulation
- Increased stamina for learning
- Enhanced social-emotional capacity and resilience
- The development of positive relationships with peers and Wellbeing Staff
**Responsibilities**:
- Carry out work in accordance with the direction outlined in the appropriate level of the Dimensions of Work - Education Support Class.
- Build positive relationships with students in the Calm Learning Space (CLS) to support their general wellbeing.
- Liaise with teaching staff around classwork completion and engagement for the students in the Calm Learning Space.
- Collaborate with Wellbeing Staff to facilitate a positive, learning environment in the Calm Learning Space.
- Maintain a child safe environment in line with DET requirements.
