The Ship Keeper works in the Fleet team to ensure the vessels are functioning safely and efficiently. The position is also responsible for delivering high quality customer service to all guests at the Museum to ensure accurate information is given onboard the vessels to provide a welcoming and informed experience.
This role will be expected to assist in the management of vessels in the museum’s heritage fleet as required.
**High level overview of responsibilities**:
- Prepare and operate the vessel during opening hours to allow for public attendance. This comprises of unlocking each ship, switching on relevant lights, general ship keeping duties as well as ship husbandry and securing.
- Work with the Front of House and Public Engagement teams to support visitor tours that are effectively integrated with the overall ANMM visitor experience. Maintain smooth movement of visitors through the vessels and liaise with the volunteers and FOH team to safely maximise visitor numbers on board.
- Monitor the vessels safety / vessel systems and if deficiencies are detected, reporting is to be completed and delivered to the Fleet Manager to ensure safety for visitors and staff.
- Efficient face-to-face assistance and support for visitor groups, on-board contractors, and authorised visitors such as Film and Media groups to ensure a positive experience for them.
**Selection Criteria**:
- Demonstrated knowledge of and interest in the Fleet vessels and their history.
- Qualifications and experience in one or more of the following areas: first aid, guiding, safety / security training, relevant maritime qualifications.
- Excellent communication skills and experience in guiding.
