**What you'll be doing**

The primary purpose of the position is to provide quality care to patients in a complex clinical environment. Medical Officers will work under an appropriate level of supervision according to their level of competence to evaluate, diagnose, treat and provide consultation to patients of all ages presenting in any condition and will work in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings.
You may be required to work at the different facilities and locations with the NSW public health system as part of Central Coast Local Health District which includes Gosford, Wyong, Woy Woy and Long Jetty Hospitals.
The Unaccredited Trainee will represent the Specialist Palliative Care Service in a consultative role in Community clinical settings, Gosford and Wyong Hospitals, and sub-acute sites as required. To utilise best practice and evidence based care in symptom management and end of life care. To liaise with others to achieve optimal outcomes for palliative care patients. The Unaccredited Trainee will work across locations in the LHD as required. This role may suit a doctor wishing to increase or improve their experience of specialist palliative care.

Palliative Care Medicine holds accreditation in Advanced Training in the following:
6 months Inpatient palliative care term at Gosford Palliative Care unit (Term1)
6 months Gosford Hospital Consult term or Cancer care term (can be either term 3 or 4)
12 month Wyong Hospital consult term and community term (50/50) (terms 2 and 3)
6 months Community term based at Long Jetty Hospital (0.8 FTE) (Term 2)
Palliative Care is also approved for people wishing to complete their diploma in palliative care (6 months) Accredited for rural GP trainees.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
- Experience in assessing and delivering medical care to Palliative Care or similar type patients is desired.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, including providing leadership and direction to ensure appropriate management of patients.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise, with demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
- Demonstrated time management, problem solving skills and excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and computer skills, with minimum of 30 words per minute. Along with evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self education.
- Demonstrated understanding of how the District is Caring for the Coast and how this role would contribute.
