**About the Role**

Opportunity to share your passion for the Australian wilderness and contribute towards the conservation of the natural environment, flora, fauna and Aboriginal and historical heritage of the Southern Ranges Branch of National Parks and Wild Service.

The Discovery Ranger roles are based in Katoomba and work across the four seasons in geographically diverse terrain of the Blue Mountains National Park, providing the opportunity to carry out a large range of tasks including education, assisting Rangers and biodiversity conservation projects.

As a Discovery Ranger, you will develop and implement diverse activities and learning experiences for visitors to the State’s national parks and reserves to foster community awareness, appreciation and understanding for conserving the state’s natural and cultural heritage, and the role of the Planning & Environment and the National Parks and Wildlife Service, as part of a state-wide coordinated education program.

**About You**

To be successful in the role, you will have:

- The demonstrated ability to ensure the optimal safety of tour participants and children consistent with the risks associated with exposure to the natural environment.
- Experience in ensuring the content and style of educational activities and materials is appropriate, of high standard, and enhance the visitor experience; and maintain appropriate dress and manner, timeliness, and effective communication to ensure that a high profile and professional image of DPE and NPWS is maintained.
- An understanding of Risk Management, Minimal Impact and Bush Safety principles in relation to guided tours in a cultural or field setting.

**Essential requirements**
- Current Working with Children check clearance.
- First Aid Certificate and Current Australian Drivers Licence, or willingness to obtain.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including week-days, weekends, public holidays and school holidays
- Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering interpretative guiding and/or educational
- programs to students or groups.
- Awareness of Aboriginal culture and broad knowledge of the natural and, historic heritage values of the local area.
- Sound understanding of Risk Management, Minimal Impact and Bush Safety principles in relation to guided tours in a cultural or field setting**.**
