**The opportunity**:
Child mental health problems are common; almost 14 percent of 4 to 17-year-olds have a diagnosable mental health problem. Schools provide an ideal platform to facilitate prevention and early intervention for problem behaviours, thoughts and feelings in a universal, non-stigmatising context. However, the existing interface between the education/healthcare mental health systems is unable to adequately meet the needs of children with mental health problems.

The Policy and Equity Group (Mental Health Research & Policy) is working in partnership with the Melbourne Graduate School of Education (MGSE) and the Victorian Department of Education (DE) to roll out a new program state wide aimed at building the capability of Victorian primary schools to better support student mental health and wellbeing. The program includes a new Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader (MHWL) role in Victorian primary schools. This new role includes a structured training program for the new MHWLs, which is being delivered by MGSE. The MHWL and accompanying training (“the MHWL model”) is an additional resource for schools, and is designed to increase support for teachers in addressing mental health needs of students as well as building their confidence and skills in this area. The overarching project including implementation and evaluation components, is known as the Mental Health in Primary Schools (MHIPS) project.

The MHIPS project is looking for Project Assistant to support the project.

The Project Assistant will provide support with a wide range of research administrative tasks, including participant recruitment, liaison with schools and participants from within the school community, monitoring survey completion, data entry, survey preparation, phone-call follow-up, amongst a range of other tasks. Familiarity with Redcap or similar database would be an advantage.

**Your responsibilities include**:
Assisting research team with data collection from schools and research participants
Supporting the project team to manage competing priorities and deadlines and deliver projects in a timely manner
Contributing to preparation, collection and distribution of information and data as required by the project and group

**About you**:
Degree/Honours/Masters qualification in Health or related discipline (e.g. psychology, public health, social sciences)
Demonstrated experience with participant recruitment and survey data collection and/or qualitative data collection, particularly in a school context
Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills - both written and verbal
Demonstrated computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite
Experience with Redcap or similar database would be an advantage
