**Position overview**
ANU has an international reputation for research and education relevant to the health and well-being of the population of Australia, as well as that of the developing world. This is achieved through discovery research, applied research in health service settings, research-led teaching in health and medical sciences, and the translation of research findings into practice and policy. The ANU College of Health and Medicine comprises the School of Medicine and Psychology, the John Curtin School of Medical Research and the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health. These schools work together to deliver world-class research and education across the spectrum of medicine and health-related fields, working in partnership with the health sector at local, national and international levels.
The Genomics Bioinformatician will join a BioPlatforms Australia-funded team at the John Curtin School of Medical Research to provide bioinformatics know-how to build genome and phenome analytics across diverse projects. The appointee will be embedded in a research team comprising computational biologists and professional bioinformaticians, and will collaborate across a broader team of immunologists and clinicians. Specifically, the major focus of this position will be to join work underway to introduce precision medicine and genomics into the treatment of immune disorders and autoimmunity. This work is enabled through multiple MRFF awards to bring precision medicine to treat immune and autoinflammatory diseases. The project is already generating large datasets (both genome and phenome) and a bioinformatician with data science and machine learning expertise is needed immediately to mine and develop analytics to better understand this information.
