**About the role**:
The position is responsible for the provision of technical support to both the staff and students of the Horticulture courses.

This involves the operation and management of the laboratories utilised by the programs and providing laboratory and field support to the teachers and students of those programs. You will be responsible for the purchase, maintenance and management of all tools and equipment required by the program for practicals and field work, and attendance at field days and camps to facilitate use and management of the equipment.

**Duties**:

- Set up labs with required equipment, resources and specimens for teaching staff for course delivery;
- This includes setting up and supporting the delivery of tissue culture short course and Diploma of Applied Horticultural Science laboratory-based units.
- Drive students to and from field trips and camps as required;
- Keep abreast of industry standard and innovations and research, identify resource requirements, make recommendations and where authorised source new and replacement resources and equipment relevant to course delivery;
- Ensure equipment and tools are kept maintained and in safe working order and serviced where required;
- Keep a current equipment register with information about loans
- Organise, prepare agenda, attend and minute Program Area Meetings.
- Support Nursery manager and teachers within the nursery space at Epping and Fairfield to ensure stock, class equipment is available to teachers when required
- Undertake a range of administrative, coordination and learning services activities directly related to the assigned program.
- Communicate regularly with the Program Leaders and other staff within the Horticulture programs to establish a flexible team environment and consistency in resource and delivery strategies.

**Skills and experience required**:
**Mandatory**:

- A degree in Environment, Ecology or Biodiversity or equivalent.
- A current Police Check.
- A current International Police Check if you have resided continuously in an overseas country for 12 months or more in the last 10 years.
- A current Working with Children Check Card (Employee).
- Thorough knowledge of current Tissue culture and plant physiology practices

**Desirable**:

- Ability to take a positive role in the effective delivery of the Horticulture courses.
- A thorough knowledge of current industry practices and procedures with a demonstrated ability to initiate and maintain liaisons within the Horticultural Industry.
- Attention to detail and able to accurately perform operations.
- Able to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Fit and capable of performing physical work.
- Literacy and numeracy skills.
- Personal presentation and punctuality.
- Ability to co-operate in a team environment and, where necessary, work effectively with minimum supervision
- Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to Occupational Health and Safety, Anti-Discrimination, Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement.
- Current Medium Rigid Victorian Drivers’ License and Taxi Directorate.
