About the job

Our Kwinana Refinery currently has a permanent opportunity for a suitably qualified Laboratory Specialist/Project Officer. You will help us bring innovative and creative development programs to fruition, advancing technological leadership and competitiveness. This position is full-time, working Monday to Friday each week with one flexible day off every four weeks.

Under the direction of the Senior Development Chemist, you are accountable for planning and implementing programs and providing support to departmental and process projects aimed at monitoring and improving the productivity and efficiency as well as the overall quality of the refinery. Further contributions in this role include:
- Providing technical expertise and process knowledge to successful implementation of multi-disciplinary projects within the Refinery,- Providing concise, accurate and timely recommendations from project work to personnel to consider in process changes,- Development of Laboratory support staff through training and development on specialised analytical, laboratory and pilot plant equipment,- Instil work practices that ensure safe, efficient and technically sound working conditions.- Working safely and promoting a strong safety culture in a continuously operating refinery- Assisting with measurements of process both inline and sample based- Working at heights and completing manual work; including carrying heavy equipment and hammering valves- Maintaining a high standard of accuracy and precision in all sampling & analysis- Timely progress of required work- Handle and work with corrosive chemicals- Collecting representative samples for further processing in the laboratory.

About you

To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:
- Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques is essential, or Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) desirable,- An ability to work independently,- An open mind to contribute to efficiencies, innovation, and facilitating new insights,- Engagement across various work groups, with the ability to communicate and connect with all levels of the business.
