Caboolture Special School is located on Gubbi Gubbi Country, where staff, students and school community members work together happily and productively every school day to achieve success.
Our school is an amazing place to teach and learn, with modern resources and a commitment to excellence demonstrated in both our words and actions.
Caboolture Special School parents and carers are highly supportive and are a valued partner in the success of each and every learner.Our school was first opened in 1980 and over the years the school has grown rapidly with an addition of numerous classroom blocks. What began as a large 'covered area' under a tin roof became the hall complex which included a canteen and playground equipment.
This was refurbished through the Building Education Revolution program. The hall building has since been updated with new audio-visual equipment and greatly improved flooring and acoustics. The canteen was also extended to cater for larger numbers and the students' hospitality program, under the Building Education Revolution program.
During 2010, the enrolment reached 160 students, offering year levels P-12 for both male and female students. Physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech language pathologists support students with therapy, where appropriate, and a chaplain has been available to work with the whole school community.
In 2012, our enrolment reached 183 students from Prep -Year 12. The school grew to 260 students in 2016 and continued to cater for students from Prep to Year 12. In 2020, the school population divided to become two separate school -secondary year levels at Lee Street State Special School and the primary years at Caboolture Special School. Our two schools have a distance of approximately 4 km between their campuses.
The current 2021 student population now stands at 120 students and has become a Primary Special School for students in years Prep to Year 6.
In keeping with educational research, the focus of the school curriculum has changed over the years to ensure currency and to best support the needs of students with a diverse and complex range of abilities.
The school community looks forward to an exciting future with the inclusion of the Highly Individualised Curriculum under the Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Framework. This was introduced in 2012 providing our students with multiple opportunities for learning. Currently, approximately 85% of our student cohort is engaged in learning in the Highly Individualised Curriculum.
