About the role

We are seeking a values-driven Lived Experience Peer Worker who will be working alongside the AOD team and other clinical staff to support and assist improving the wellbeing of people with substance use challenges who are engaged with the Bridge Program. They attend and co-facilitate group sessions, provide appropriate information on services, and share stories of hope and lived experience. Work under the general direction and supervision of AOD staff. Assist the AOD staff in relation to work with specific participants. Assist the program participants to access services and supports.

You will successfully
- Provide support for participants in their recovery journey
- Assist individuals in navigating the community health system, accessing external support and provide information on community resources and services
- Share lived experience perspectives with the AOD team to facilitate further understanding to improve and influence service, consistent with recovery-orientated practice
- Safely drive participants to services, events or activities, as required
- Welcome new participants into the program through supporting them during the induction process
- Assist in developing and facilitating creative recreational or lifestyle activities for participants to engage in self-care, personal development, and community engagement as part of a holistic recovery
- Provide opportunity for peer learning through the provision of support that compliments community care. Support and educate clients on their rights and responsibilities, maintaining their dignity and confidentiality
- Model self-advocacy strategies and encourage participants towards self-advocacy, including modelling engagement in treatment to encourage participation in treatment and services

This is a part-time (6hrs per week), max-term (31/12/23) position located in New Town, VIC. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS award.

You will have
- Lived experience of addiction and recovery
- Knowledge of the alcohol and other drug sector in Tasmania.
- Knowledge of the issues and challenges AOD clients experience and a clear understanding of harm minimisation approaches.
- Understand and ability to demonstrate trauma informed practice.
- Evidence of completion of peer training (through DEN or SHARC)
- Certificate 4 in Community Services or related field (e.g., AOD, Mental Health) or the willingness to obtain
- A National Criminal History Check is required
- Working with vulnerable people card is mandatory
