Westmead Hospital caters to a diverse catchment area and provides exposure to a large volume of complex and unique cases. The centre specialises in airway trauma, advanced oncology and reconstructive procedures. In addition, the centre sees a large volume of high-risk groups such as bariatric and obstetric populations.

There are several head and neck oncology and ENT teams operating at Westmead, allowing for experience in awake tracheostomies, jet ventilation, lung isolation techniques and even the use of ECMO in select complex airways. Furthermore, the fellow will learn to manage dental and maxillo-facial lists for paediatric and special needs patients.
In this role, the fellow is expected to attend multi-disciplinary meetings to identify and develop a comprehensive management plan of complex patients. Non-clinical roles include involvement in SIM based CICO teaching, and SMAART and RAAD courses. The fellow will also be encouraged to conduct research and clinical audits throughout the year, with opportunities to generate policy and present at clinical meetings. The fellowship is structured but allows flexibility to cater to the individual’s interests and requirements.
