An exciting opportunity exists to join the Infectious Diseases and Sexual Health Departments within the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District.

Shellharbour Hospital is a 197 bed, acute facility providing a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services. The inpatient services include aged care, medical, surgical, mental health and acute medical assessment inpatient beds, plus a day surgery unit. The hospital also provides emergency services, elective surgical services, general medical, antenatal and primary family health care, satellite renal dialysis, as well as adolescent and adult mental health services.

Port Kembla District Hospital is a 57 bed facility which specialises in Rehabilitation, Aged Care and Palliative Care Services. The hospital also provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.

**What you'll be doing**

To provide a high standard of clinical care to inpatients, outpatients and consultation patients with Infectious Diseases, HIV and Sexually Transmitted Diseases, at the level of expectations of the RACP from advanced trainees in Infectious Diseases and Sexual Health.
To fulfil the service requirements of the Department. These may include attendance and participation in multidisciplinary meetings; clinical meetings; journal clubs, supervision and education of junior medical staff and active participation in antibiotic stewardship, infection control and/or ambulatory care programs.
The Infectious Diseases Service of the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) provides the full range of diagnosis and management in patients with infectious diseases presentations, and HIV inpatient service across the district, as well as district-wide 24/7 Antimicrobial Stewardship, supervision of antibiotic treatment of patients in the Hospital-in-the-Home (HITH) program, medical support for the Infection Prevention and Control Service of the district (IMACS) and close liaison with Microbiology (NSW Health Pathology), the Illawarra Sexual Health Service and Public Health.
The Illawarra Sexual Health Service provides training for RACP Advanced Trainees in Sexual Health Medicine. The training program includes diagnosis and management of sexually transmissible infections, HIV, hepatitis C, long acting contraception, gender affirming care for transgender clients, genital dermatology, sexual function and the forensic examination and after care for sexual assault. You will work in a multidisciplinary team with doctors, nurses and allied health practitioners. There will be opportunities to undertake interdisciplinary teaching and research. Close liaison with Public Health and Infectious Diseases is expected. You will be expected to provide advice to other health professionals in community clinics and the hospital setting particularly in relation to the management of sexually transmissible infections including HIV.
The position involves: A) 0.6FTE in Infectious Diseases primarily at Shellharbour Hospital (with Department joint meetings for patient care and educational at The Wollongong Hospital) working under the supervision of Infectious Diseases Physicians; and B) 0.4FTE in HIV at Port Kembla and Shoalhaven clinics under the supervision of Sexual Health and ID Physicians, to strengthen the clinical approach to the management of HIV positive patients, particularly related to ageing and other comorbidities though clinical case management and building on the existing clinical audit process.
The successful applicant is expected to be involved in Clinical management of Outpatient Clinics including Infectious Disease, HIV and Sexual Health Clinics. All consultations are expected to be e ntered into the databases of the two Departments weekly. Both Departments are accredited from RACP for Advanced Training; this offers the possibility for prospectively accrediting the time in this position with the RACP.
