Job Title: IT Support Specialist (Flexible/On-Call)
Location: 584 Ballarat Road, Albion VIC
Reports To: CEO
**Job Type**: Flexible retainer (varying weekly hours based on needs)
**Job Summary**:
Essential Experience:
- Proven track record supporting Australian SMEs (mandatory)
- Experience balancing security needs with operational efficiency
- History of implementing practical, user-friendly solutions
- Understanding of business impact when making IT decisions
- Experience supporting hybrid workforces (office and remote staff)
**Key Responsibilities**:
Responsive Support:
- Provide timely IT support to 32 staff (12 office-based, 20 remote)
- Handle urgent issues promptly during business hours
- Consolidate non-urgent tasks for efficient weekly resolution
- Maintain clear communication about task status and priorities
System Maintenance:
- Keep existing systems running smoothly
- Implement necessary updates and security measures without disruption
- Manage user accounts and access rights
- Ensure reliable backup systems are in place and working
- Monitor system health and address issues before they impact work
New Staff Setup:
- Configure laptops and phones to our specifications
- Ensure smooth onboarding from an IT perspective, including Employment Hero training module completion, etc.
- Provide basic system guidance to new users
Advisory Role:
- Identify genuine risks and propose proportionate solutions
- Present clear business cases for any significant changes
- Explain technical issues and solutions in business terms
- Focus on practical improvements that offer clear benefits
- Advise on technology purchases and upgrades when needed
Required Approach:
- Understand our business first, then suggest improvements
- Present solutions with clear explanations of business impact
- Focus on maintaining productivity and user satisfaction
- Implement changes gradually with mínimal disruption
- Balance security needs with operational efficiency
- Work autonomously while keeping key stakeholders informed
- Have extensive SME experience
- Be solutions-focused rather than process-focused
- Understand that business needs drive IT decisions, not vice versa
- Be able to work independently with mínimal direction
- Have excellent judgment about risk vs reward
- Be responsive when urgently needed
- Be flexible with working arrangements
Working Arrangement:
- Regular maintenance and non-urgent tasks can be scheduled weekly
- Must be available for urgent issues during business hours
- Typical workload varies from 4-10 hours per week
- Some work can be done remotely
- Must be able to visit the office when needed
