**About the Role**

The Research Associate will contribute to the research efforts of UniSA STEM, in particular they will undertake research on the project titled “Geospatial positioning and fusion: is real-time sub-metre, accuracy operationally feasible in forestry environments?” with Forest & Wood Products Australia (FWPA).

**Core Responsibilities**
- Under the broad guidance of Prof Finn and CIs perform specific tasks such as:

- Develop and evaluate robust spatial processing techniques to enable fusion of aerial and ground-based point clouds to allow individual tree locations to be obtained
- Examine and compare new geolocation technology potential with existing techniques
- Assist in the design and execution of field trials and reduce and analyse associated data (includes a willingness/ability to travel to field sites and undertake work in forests environments)
- Participate in and report to relevant FWPA working groups and steering committees
- Attend and actively participate in stakeholder meetings associated with relevant research projects, including understanding operational requirements of the forest industry to deliver implementable solutions and outcomes
- Prepare or contribute to the preparation of high-quality refereed journal publications, conference and seminar papers arising from the research
- Undertake administrative duties associated with relevant research projects, as required

**Essential Skills and Experience**
- A doctorate in the fields of remote sensing, GNSS positioning, (geodetic/cadastral) surveying, navigation, or spatial data fusion
- Evidence of high-quality research experience through published work as first author in peer-reviewed journals of high standing
- Excellent written and oral communication skills demonstrated through written work such as research reports, research publications and educational materials, and through effective liaison with external partners, colleagues and students
- Ability to plan and execute testing and research with stakeholders
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a research team
