The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is seeking to recruit a **Procurement Officer** for our Finance and Procurement Branch. This is a permanent, full-time role at the APS 6 classification level. The role is located in our office in Canberra, although flexible working arrangements (including a hybrid model of working from home and the office) apply.
**About the role**
Working in a supportive team environment, duties of an APS 6 Procurement Officer include:
- providing accurate procurement and contracting advice and support for internal ABS clients (Australia wide) including effective participation in all stages of procurement processes from the simple to complex, across all types of procurement
- maintaining consistency and compliance with ABS and Commonwealth Procurement Frameworks
- assisting in negotiations with suppliers to reach successful, value for money outcomes
- quality assurance, undertaking procurement/contract data entry
- reporting support (compliance, annual report, AusTender)
- proactive engagement with internal clients
- assisting with building procurement and contracting capability across the ABS
- contributing to continuous improvement such as ongoing development and maintenance of systems, and procurement/contracting processes and tools
- database administration.
**About the business area**
The Finance and Procurement Branch is headed up by the Chief Financial Officer and is part of the Corporate Services Division.
The branch works with a broad range of stakeholders both within and outside of the ABS and supports a client centric, transparent and value add service model to support the ABS meet its enterprise strategy.
Procurement within the ABS is a centre-led function, playing a pivotal role in the provision of professional, expert advice and support on all facets of procurement and contracting across the ABS.
The Procurement Section works collaboratively to maintain consistency of processes and compliance with corporate and Commonwealth policies, including the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act and Rules, and Financial Delegations.
The role is based in Canberra, within a section of 10 team members, supporting stakeholders and internal clients undertaking a diverse range of procurement activities from simple to complex.
