**Learning Specialist: Inclusion**
Learning Specialists will be highly skilled classroom practitioners who continue to spend the majority of their time in the classroom delivering high-quality teaching and learning and have a range of responsibilities related to their expertise, including teaching demonstration lessons, observing and providing feedback to other teachers and facilitating school-based professional learning.
Learning Specialists are expected to have deep knowledge and expertise in high quality teaching and learning in delivering improved achievement, engagement and wellbeing for students. The role of the Learning Specialist will be to model excellence in teaching and learning through demonstration lessons, and mentoring and coaching teachers in improving the skill, knowledge and effectiveness of the teaching workforce.
The Learning Specialist for Inclusion role is aimed at ensuring that students with additional needs are engaged in education and meeting their learning goals. To do this they work collaboratively with the school¿s leadership team, Learning and Teaching team, other learning specialists, MIPs team, wellbeing staff, allied health teams, SWAN support staff, families, teachers and students. They co-ordinate a highly effective and collaborative team around our SWAN learners in the following ways:
**Responsibilities**:
- Support the AP and LT for Inclusion in the enrolment of new students into the SWAN program. Attending handover meetings and disseminating this information to the SWAN team in an efficient and well documented manner
- Working closely with the LT for Inclusion and SWAN coordinator to ensure that all documentation from the feeder schools is collected and used to support teaching staff in their planning to meet these students at their individual points of need
- Support the LT for Inclusion in maintaining oversight of individual Education Plans (IEPs) across the school and ensure the school meets obligations for students who are required to have an IEP (at least level two of the IEP quality checklist rubric). Ensure that student voice is central to this process
- Provide whole school PL in relation to inclusion and differentiation
- Modelling exemplary classroom practice including through teaching demonstration lessons
- Working alongside the Learning and Teaching Team and other Learning Specialists to support APs in providing whole school PL to all staff
- Working with the school leadership team to develop a shared view of highly effective differentiation practices
- Playing a key role in developing processes and protocols for observation and feedback of teacher practice and peer collaboration
- Leading and modelling the implementation of whole-school improvement strategies related to differentiation and inclusion
- Provide evidence-based feedback to teaching staff to inform their effectiveness and development
- Support the LT for Inclusion in ensuring that the PSDMS data base is up to date
- Support the LT for Inclusion to manage referrals that are made for new students and follow up on any subsequent documentation as needed
- Working with year level coordination teams to ensure that staff are meeting students with NDIS support at their individual point of need
- Support the SWAN coordinator by communicating feedback from SWAN students, families and support staff to individual teachers and providing them with coaching and mentoring as needed in a solutions focussed manner
