**About the role**:
Campbelltown City Council is preparing for the next phase of our regional processing/disposal procurement project (Project 24) and a dedicated education officer has been identified to improve source separation and resource recovery across the community. The education officer will focus on preparing the community for best practice resource recovery in the lead up to the next contract.
Our Resource Recovery and Waste Services team pride themselves on being proactive with educating our community about responsible waste management and focusing on delivering relevant and efficient services in support of a sustainable environment.
**As the Waste Projects and Education Officer you will be responsible for**:
- Support coordinator in development, implementation, reporting and achievement of the Community Strategic Plan, Operational Plan, Delivery Program and other strategies.
- Investigate and recommend projects suitable for the council to achieve goals outlined in the Waste and Sustainable Materials Strategy 2041.
- Coordinate a variety of waste management activities and projects that give effect to Council’s Waste and Resource Recovery Education Strategy.
- In conjunction with the Senior Resource Recovery Officer develop and implement waste education programs associated with the household collection program and related processing/disposal
- Initiate marketing and promotional programs in respect of Council’s adopted Waste and Resource Recovery Education Strategy and Council’s obligations under Project 24.
- Promote waste management and recycling during major community events, and to targeted community
- Identify and evaluate areas with unacceptable contamination of recyclables and garden organics streams and make appropriate recommendations that mitigate Council’s exposure to any contractual penalties.
- Carry out surveys to ascertain the levels of understanding and acceptance of waste collection and recycling
- Provide advice about waste services and education programs to the Resource Recovery and Waste Service Coordinator and other Sections/Units of the
- Working knowledge of waste legislation, waste management systems, grant funding programs and waste education issues.
- Understanding the interdependencies between waste generation, collection and processing/disposal.
- Knowledge of the use of community profile information to support service planning.
- Knowledge of effective strategies that achieve improved resource recovery outcomes.
- Familiarity with the use of contemporary communication platforms.
- COVID-19 Vaccination or Medical Contraindication Certificate upon commencement.
