Youth and Family Counsellor

**Part-time (0.6FTE) position until Dec 2024**:

**What you’ll be doing**
As _Youth and Family Counsellor_ you will focus on the mental health and family needs of children and young people in the Eastern Region of Melbourne.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Providing appropriate interventions for young people at risk of or experiencing homelessness and/or deteriorating family relationships.
- The work includes the provision of focussed psychological and social strategies through individual counselling, family counselling or therapeutic groupwork.
- Building and maintaining productive and co-operative links with relevant agencies, peers, organisations, and stakeholders.
- The position will be based in Nunawading, with the opportunity for both office-based and outreach-based appointments as required.

**Qualifications**:
In addition to a self-directed passion and drive to support young people and their families, you'll have:

- Extensive experience working with youth facing mental health challenges, the impacts of trauma, homelessness, early school departure and family conflict.
- Understanding of issues involved in adolescent and/or childhood development. As well as challenges faced by this group.
- Knowledge of services, processes and networks available for young people in the area.
- Understanding of the social model of health and mental health recovery principles and processes.
- An applied understanding and sensitivity to the needs of people from marginalized communities as well as Aboriginal communities.
- Mandatory Qualification/s, Competencies and/or Licences_
- Minimum tertiary qualification in either Social Work, Counselling, Youth Work.
- Current Driver’s License.

**Who you’ll be working with**
You will work within a multidisciplinary group of professionals made up of a Program Stream Manager and Youth and Family Counsellors from a range of disciplines and backgrounds. You’ll also work closely with other internal and external services and teams to provide a holistic and supportive experience.

The service is confidential and non-judgemental, making a concerted effort to deliver responsive and relevant services to the needs of LGBTIQA+ and Aboriginal young people and families.
