**About Faculty of Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences**
The Faculty of Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences was formed in July 2014 through the merger of the former Faculty of Veterinary Science and the Department of Agriculture and Food Systems. The Faculty’s core teaching, postgraduate training, research, clinical consultancy and industry development activities are delivered at the Parkville, Werribee and Dookie campuses, and the Veterinary Hospital operates at Werribee.

Research within the Faculty has led to some outstanding outcomes including: increased agricultural productivity; vaccines and diagnostic products that have been commercialised throughout the world; enhanced animal welfare; improvements in public health; and contributions to basic understanding of animal biology.

**About the Role**
As the Animal Attendant (Equine) you will join a small, dedicated team of veterinarians and clinic staff delivering equine clinical and research imaging, lameness investigation and surgery at the Equine Centre based at our newly updated Werribee Campus.

You will provide critical support to the centre’s operations, with a focus on animal husbandry and horse handling. In a typical week, you will assist with daily cleaning of stables, feeding horses, assistance in animal handling during veterinary examinations and imaging procedures and maintaining stock and feed supplies.

With a focus on patient care and excellent customer service, you will ensure safe handling of patients during various procedures and adhere to best practice standards of infection control and cleaning.

Working closely with the team, and reporting to the Team Lead - Equine Centre, this role provides the opportunity for the right incumbent to grow their career in the equine industry, with possibilities of further up-skilling available.

Responsibilities include:.
- Assisting with imaging activities under the direction of imaging technicians and veterinarians within the Equine Centre in accordance with radiation and operational safety protocols.
- Assisting in demonstrating techniques in animal handing for the care, welfare, transport and movement of horses to staff and undergraduate veterinary students.
- Recording and maintaining all documentation, patient records, equipment in accordance with best practice, University policies, procedures and SOPs.
- Contributing to effective communications with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the provision of the highest standard of customer service at all times.

**About You**
You will be passionate about the equine industry and progressing your skills in the field of equine care, with a thorough appreciation and understanding of horse handling and care. With experience gained within the equine industry, you will have demonstrated experience in horse husbandry, safe handling, dietary management and barn management.

You are an excellent communicator, and enjoy working within a team, while also exercising independent judgement to ensure animal health and welfare requirements and infection control is maintained at all times.

You will also have:

- Established organisational skills demonstrated by the ability to meet deadlines and effectively balance competing demands with appropriate problem-solving initiative in a professional manner.
- Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to liaise professionally across all levels with internal and external stakeholders, and with a diverse range of people.
- Excellent written communication skills that enable the consistent and timely preparation of records, correspondence, and tasks to a high-standard with demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and under general direction within a busy environment as part of a team.
