An exciting opportunity exists to join the Paediatrics Department at Wollongong Hospital.
**Where you'll be working**
Wollongong Hospital is the Illawarra and Shoalhaven’s major referral and teaching hospital and has a bed base of more than 500. The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.
Wollongong is located an hour’s drive south of Sydney on a narrow coastal strip bordered by the Royal National Park to the north, Lake Illawarra to the south, the Tasman Sea to the east and the Illawarra Escarpment to the west. **What you'll be doing**
The primary purpose of the Provisional Paediatric Fellow role is to provide high quality medical care with senior oversight and supervision to paediatric patients of Wollongong Hospital and within the ISLHD catchment area. The Wollongong Paediatric Service is the higher-level referral centre for paediatric care in ISLHD an includes a Paediatric Ward (20 beds), Neonatal Unit (12 beds) accepting deliveries of babies 32 weeks and over, the Paediatric Assessment Unit and Neonatal Hospital in the Home service.
Wollongong Paediatrics has a 24 hour junior medical officer workforce. The Fellow will lead and supervise a team of junior doctors including seven paediatric Trainees and five residents (SRMOs and PGY2 RMOs). The Fellow will be involved in acute and outpatient paediatric care including daily acute review clinics, general paediatric hospital outpatient clinics and private paediatric consulting rooms. The Fellow will have the opportunity to gain on call experience by acting as the first on call in the consultant roster.
The Provisional Paediatric Fellow position is accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) General Paediatric Specialist Advisory Committee and supports development of skills required for specialist paediatric training. The University of Wollongong Graduate School of Medicine offers research and teaching opportunities and conjoint hononary lecturer appointments are available to interested Fellows.

**Selection Criteria**:
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia
- Registered with RACP as an advanced trainee or equivalent. Those registered with the RACP must have successfully completed written & clinical components of the FRACP examination & preferably completed a minimum of 6 months as an advanced trainee with RACP or equivalent at commencement of the Provisional Fellow role.
- Advanced communication skills, including the ability to convey, and adapt verbal and written information to a clinical and non-clinical audience.
- Advanced clinical skills and judgement, with the ability to make sound decisions and problem solve with an awareness of limitations and ability to learn independently and modify behaviour accordingly.
- Ongoing commitment to further education and professional development and demonstrated ability and willingness to teach medical students, doctors in training and other health professionals.
- Understanding of research methodology or research experience and a willingness to undertake a research proposal.
- Demonstrated contribution to quality improvement, patient safety and clinical governance within the hospital e.g. participation in committees or representation on behalf of the hospital.
