Why this role matters
The Alexis Family Violence Response Model (A-FVRM) is an innovative programs that intends to reduce the recidivism of family violence to increase safety for women and children by ensuring accountability amongst Family Violence (FV) offenders through an integrated systems response. The A-FVRM also seeks to reduce secondary victimization and decrease the incidence of family violence via interagency cooperation and collaboration.
This aim is achieved by providing a coordinated cross sectorial, multi-agency integrated response to families who are having repeated contact with Police and services due to family violence. In this manner, the A-FVRM aims to identify and respond to family violence as soon as possible after an incident to maximise opportunities for engagement to improve overall safety.
About the role
The A-FVRM provides a whole of family response that works towards reducing risk to women and children and holding perpetrators of family violence to account. The Alexis
- AFM Specialist Family Violence Practitioner, provides intensive, innovative and holistic short term interventions to women and children, who have experienced Family Violence.
The Specialist Family Violence Practitioner (Alexis) is embedded within Victoria Police's Family Violence Investigation Unit located within the La Trobe Valley (Morwell). This position will provide a specialist response to repeat and high risk cases of family violence, as identified through Victoria Police L17s from within Division where Alexis operates.
Responsibilities include:
- Ensure all clients who access the service are provided with non-judgemental, holistic support that demonstrates the mission and values of The Salvation Army
- Co-review and co-triage family violence incidences in Division 5 in accordance with protocols, alongside Victoria Police Family Violence Investigation Unit
- Conduct intake and assessment, on-going risk assessments to inform and develop comprehensive support and safety plans in coordination with the A-FVRM FV Specialist (Respondent) and Victoria Police members
- Conduct outreach services to proactively and effectively engage with perpetrators of family violence
- Build effective working relationships with Victoria Police members and lead and embed specialist family violence practice and perpetrator interventions across a multidisciplinary team
- Ensure all activities associated with program evaluation (partnership with RMIT) are supported and completed
The position is part time (60.4hrs per fortnight) maximum term role to 30 June 2025. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award, Level 6.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Integrated Men's Services, this position is embedded within Victoria Police's Family Violence Investigation Unit located in LaTrobe Valley.
You will have
- Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology or equivalent
- (desirable) Minimum of two years family violence service experience and/or demonstrate an in depth understanding of:
- the gendered nature of family violence, the drivers and causes of family violence and feminist, intersectionality and human rights frameworks pertaining to adults and children
- the developmental and therapeutic needs of children who have experienced trauma, abuse and neglect
- the skills required to engage and work with men who have perpetrated family violence
- all issues compounding the complexities of family violence including mental health, drug and alcohol, identification of child abuse and/or neglect, housing insecurity etc. and will understand the referral pathways into appropriate services; and
- working in multidisciplinary teams to provide a multiagency, integrated response to women and children experiencing family violence, and perpetrators of family violence
- Current and Valid Australian (relevant state) Full Drivers Licence
- Valid VIC Employee Working with Children Check
- Willingness to undergo a National Criminal History and work eligibility check
