The Scientific Officer - Chemistry position operates the laboratory's chemistry section (including organics), ensuring adherence to the laboratory's Quality System requirements and the needs of all clients. The position supervises and trains laboratory staff in terms of day-to-day performance and technical expertise, ensuring workflow requirements are met.

**About the role**:

- supervision and training of staff on a day to day basis.
- ensure sample registration using LIMS is conducted accurately and efficiently
- write technical reports, proposals and submissions
- supervise and perform testing within the chemical section
- provide specialist advice in the area of chemistry, water, and wastewater treatment

**We are seeking**:

- minimum diploma in analytical chemistry or other relevant tertiary qualification
- high level competency in complex instrumental and chemical analysis and interpretation of results
- experience in supervising and motivating staff
- current or recent experience in NATA accreditation
- a sound knowledge in laboratory work health and safety issues

**Essential**:
1. Diploma in Analytical Chemistry or other relevant tertiary qualification.

2. Hold a current NSW Drivers Licence or equivalent.

3. Demonstrated well-developed written and oral communication skills.

4. Demonstrated high level of competency in both complex instrumental and chemical analysis of water, wastewater, and soil along with the interpretation of results.

5. Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of and commitment to working within a Laboratory Quality System encompassing the ISO17025 Quality Standard and use of a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).

6. Demonstrated competence to manage, supervise and motivate staff.

7. Current or recent experience in NATA accreditation compliant releasing of test results demonstrating comprehensive knowledge in the field of chemical testing and sampling.

8. A sound knowledge in laboratory WH&S issues, particularly those relating to working within a commercial chemical laboratory.

**Desirable**:
9. Demonstrated competence in field of microbiological testing.
