- A rare opportunity at NRE Tas is available for a skilled and motivated wildlife veterinarian to join our Wildlife Veterinary Services team. The successful applicant for this unique position will take the lead on providing essential clinical and strategic veterinary expertise to the Tasmanian Orange-bellied Parrot Program and support a range of other wildlife health and welfare initiatives, including threatened species recovery programs, disease surveillance activities and wildlife incident response. This exciting role is diverse and, whilst based in Hobart, could involve activities across the state working with Tasmania’s unique fauna.

**Hours per fortnight**:
73.50 (minimum 58.80 hours, by negotiation).

**Duties**:
The purpose of the role is to provide veterinary services to priority wildlife conservation programs, as well as supporting a range of other wildlife health and disease programs and responding to wildlife health issues as they arise. The role also contributes to the development and implementation of native wildlife health policies, practices, programs and surveillance across the Department.

**Essential Requirements**:

- A degree in Veterinary Science or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution enabling eligibility for registration under the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1987.

**Desirable Requirements**:

- A minimum two years of professional veterinary experience working with native Australian wildlife, in particular avifauna.
- Credentials (ANZCVS) or post-graduate qualifications in avian health or epidemiology.
- A current motor vehicle driver’s licence.
- Physical ability to undertake fieldwork and other physical work associated with wildlife management and incident response.
- Training in AIIMS and/or previous experience in wildlife incident response.
- A current Coxswains licence.
- A current first aid certificate.
- A current firearms licence.

**Special Employment Conditions**
- Some intrastate and interstate travel may be required.
- Field work, including vessel-based and island work, may be required.
- Sedation or euthanasia of wildlife in support of approved wildlife population management activities may be required.
- Some availability and recall outside of normal work hours may be required.
