Live Blogger/reporter

We are seeking a **Live blogger/reporter **to live-blog federal political stories during parliamentary sitting weeks, and carry out reporting on federal politics.
**In this role you will**
- Anchor political live blog during federal parliamentary sitting weeks and as directed on breaking political stories or major political events, including election campaigns
- Use reporting skills to verify developments and interview key players in live stories and well as write stand-alone news stories when required
- Gather and contextualise contributions from Guardian reporters, in-house analysts and external media outlets
- Monitor external sources such as radio, wires services, news organisations and social media for latest developments and other relevant material, including audio and video
- Ensure live blog updates and news stories are accurate and in keeping with Guardian style, tone and legal responsibilities
- Liaise with live news editors on the direction, tone and content of the blog
- Write news articles and features where required
- As a member of the politics team, share responsibility for regular weekend work

Knowledge and experience
- Experience of working on live news, preferably on live blogging
- Excellent knowledge and interest in Australian politics and current affairs
- Excellent knowledge of parliamentary and party processes
- Strong and well-established political contacts
- Good understanding of Guardian live blogging style and format
- Substantial experience of using social internet tools and technologies
- Excellent knowledge of national news and current affairs
- Thorough understanding of media law
- Able to generate ideas for news and investigations
- Experience of writing news and features

This role is being offered on a full-time, permanent basis, based in Canberra. Working on a seven-day roster with regular weekend work, early starts and late finishes.
