This is a permanent part-time position commencing Term 2, 2023.

**Overview of the role**:
This position has primary responsibility to provide assistance to teaching staff in the school laboratories, classrooms and preparation areas under the direction of the Laboratory Manager.

You will assist the Science Laboratory staff and their resources by ensuring that the laboratories are consistently clean, well-stocked and comply with the WHS requirements including those relating to managing hazardous chemicals. This role will also assist students and teachers during lessons in the laboratories.

The position also presents an important impression of the School and the values that it represents. Professionalism, confidence, presentation and a calm, positive attitude under pressure must be maintained as well as the ability to maintain high levels of discretion and confidentiality in all circumstances.

The position also contributes to the maintenance of a positive internal culture where service, integrity, kindness and humour are valued.

**Key Responsibilities**:
Indications that this job is being done successfully would include:

- Cleaning, preparing and maintaining laboratories, lab equipment and prep room equipment that ensures regulatory and school procedural compliance. This will include basic care and storing of equipment & chemicals.
- Maintaining a consistently safe working environment in laboratories and prep room areas.
- Working within the requirement of the Workplace Health and Safety at Work Act, current Chemical Safety legislation and the School’s policies and procedures.
- Maintaining equipment and chemical inventory through regular stocktake management, plus replenishing stock levels and purchasing equipment where needed.
- Assisting Science staff in preparing equipment and setup of laboratories to ensure practical lessons run smoothly and in compliance with relevant regulations.
- Supporting teaching staff during lessons, including assisting students during practical work. This will include dissections of animal parts including heart, eye balls, etc.
- Ensuring compliance of storage, labelling and disposal of chemicals, equipment and materials are adhered to at all times.
- Providing basic training to staff on use of new/unfamiliar equipment.
- Coordinating management of risk assessments.
- Maintaining an awareness of contemporary practices in areas relevant to this position and critically assess processes and activities, identify opportunities for improvement in service, efficiency and effectiveness and implement as appropriate.
- Providing assistance across the School to meet functional requirements and uphold the reputation of Wenona.

**Education and Experience**:

- Tertiary qualifications in education and or science is desirable but not essential.
- Experience working in a broad range of roles within a laboratory & across a range of science disciplines.
- Experience working within a laboratory setting in a school or other educational setting or similar is highly desirable.
- Valid NSW Employee Working with Children Check.

- Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrates high degree of computer skills; experience in use of databases (preferably Synergetic).
- Ability to manage conflicting and changing priorities.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment to achieve team goals/deadlines, with flexibility to adapt to changing requirements and needs.
- Displays a flexible and supportive approach to dealing with staff and students, able to work collaboratively and build positive relationships.
- Willingness to learn.
- A good sense of humour is essential
