**Your new role**
Reporting to the Team Leader, Environment Protection, the Senior Environment Protection Officer - Contaminated Land and Landfill is a member of a team responsible for leading EPA’s on-ground regulatory response to a range of environmental issues including contaminated land and landfills in the region. This work includes education, compliance monitoring and inspections, and managing non-compliance via regulatory notices and enforcement action. You will use your initiative to prioritise tasks and monitor workflow in delivering frontline regulatory operations, aligned to EPA’s strategic priorities, to prevent harm to Victorian communities and the environment from pollution and waste.
This is an exciting role for an operational regulator that wants to contribute to the success of the EPA as it enters a new era of environmental protection in Victoria.
**What you’ll do**
- Plan and deliver regulatory actions focussed on landfills and/or contaminated land to prevent harm to communities and environment from pollution and waste through education and engagement, compliance monitoring and inspections, and managing non-compliance with environmental laws via regulatory notices and enforcement action.
- Actively contribute to the development of a positive and high performing team culture, including by identifying and implementing opportunities to improve teamwork practices.
- Provide expert advice and support capability building in the region; actively participate in the conduct of investigations (under the direction of Environmental Crime Branch); and the delivery of preventative projects and compliance programs aligned to EPA’s regulatory priorities.
- Participate in the response to environmental and public health emergencies and incidents.
- Provide support and guidance to other team members in delivering organisational priorities; contribute to the analysis, negotiation, and resolution of compliance issues; provide local intelligence to inform the development of preventative projects and compliance projects aligned to EPA’s strategic regulatory priorities.
**We are looking for an individual with experience in contaminated land/landfills with regulatory knowledge**
- Significant experience in the management and/or regulation of contaminated land and/or landfills.
- Knowledge of environmental regulation as it relates to pollution and waste is desirable.
- Successful completion of Authorised Officer and Field Response Officer training (on-job), or completion within a reasonable time frame from commencement in the role.
- Ability to be present at times and locations as required to successfully perform the role. This is usually satisfied by the possession of a current Victorian driver’s licence.
- A relevant tertiary degree or qualification is desirable.
