**The Role**

The Historian works collaboratively to perform a range of higher-level research and writing tasks in support of Australian military historical projects relating to Australian War Memorial exhibition development, commemorations, publications, research and the dissemination of military history information.

**Note**: A history degree from a recognised university is highly desirable. Substantial progress towards a higher degree in history in relevant fields is also desirable. Specialist knowledge or expertise through research and publication in conflicts beyond Australia’s involvement in the world wars will be an advantage.

**Core Responsibilities**

Under general direction, undertake research and writing tasks for Memorial exhibitions, publications and other projects.
- Undertake projects requiring specialist knowledge of Australian military history.
- Research and write biographies for the Last Post Ceremony as required.
- Co-ordinate the Memorial’s annual Summer Vacation Scholarship Scheme.
- Contribute to the development of exhibitions.
- Undertake research and writing tasks to produce or contribute to publications
- Prepare and deliver talks and presentations to the Memorial, media and public.
- Contribute to fostering of research and writing in Australian military history.
- To actively participate in the activities of the Military History Section.
