**About the Role**

Our School provides an exceptional environment that nurtures innovative research in data science and statistics. You'll have unparalleled opportunities to collaborate with researchers across a broad range of disciplines from the Melbourne Centre for Data Science, machine learning and bioinformatics researchers in Computing and Information Systems, biostatisticians in Population and Global Health, and big data research in genomics in the Melbourne Integrative Genomics research hub.

This is a rare opportunity to join a growing Data Science initiative and allows for both a multi-disciplinary environment as well as the continued development of an individual research agenda.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Research and contribution to knowledge through scholarship, cross-disciplinary or industry collaboration, refereed publication and presentations
- Contributing to training, scientific mentoring and supervision of students
- Engaging with relevant professional and industry bodies and stakeholders to foster collaborative partnerships

**Who We Are Looking For**

You have experience with, or are excited by the opportunity, to undertake cross-disciplinary projects that have used and/or developed novel statistical and machine learning tools in interesting ways.

You will also have:

- Experience in working with mínimal supervision, and ability to prioritise tasks to achieve project objectives within timelines
- Demonstrated capacity to communicate research concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated by presentation of research results at conferences, internal forums and through manuscript submissions
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including an ability to interact with internal and external stakeholders (academic, administrative and support staff) in a courteous and effective manner

**Your New Team - “School of Mathematics and Statistics”**

The School of Mathematics and Statistics has a total of 70 continuing teaching and/or research staff; 34 research only staff and consultants; 16 academic specialists and 16 support staff. In 2020, there were 90 Research Higher Degree and 278 Coursework Master of Science students. Five members of the School staff and one Emeritus Professor are members of the Australian Academy of Science. The school currently hosts two ARC Centres of Excellence, and has hosted four ARC Laureate Fellows, ten ARC Future Fellows and fourteen DECRA Fellows.
