We are currently seeking a **Caretaker/Groundsperson** to support our Defence Base Services contract at **Buckland Military Training Area (BMTA**).

Reporting to the Environmental Services Supervisor, you will be expected to conduct environmental land management and Range control service activities including grounds maintenance, fire management, as well as environmental monitoring programs, basic construction maintenance and routine asset inspections at the BMTA.

This position will see you based on site at Buckland area in a permanent Monday to Friday full time position with an occasional requirement to provide capacity to Defence estate in the greater southern area.

Tool of trade vehicle provided.

**In addition, your duties will include**:

- Perform land management activities including:

- Ride on Mowing
- Tractor Slashing
- Chainsaw Operation
- Small Powered Plant Operation including but not limited to Brush Cutting, Leaf Blowing, Edging, Hedge Trimming, Pressure Water Cleaning.- Perform minor planned maintenance activities and inspections.
- Record and notify any discovered Unexploded Ordnance (UXO).
- Provide support to the Range Control functions, including but not limited to:

- maintain safety information (e.g. no go / restricted areas, overlays, sentry locations);
- conduct scripted range induction briefings;
- conduct pre and post exercise/activity inspections;
- pre and post occupancy inspections of TAR accommodation;
- maintain statistics and records; and- Manage range remediation activities including but not limited to, making range facilities fit for next user (i.e. stop butts and firing points).
- Manage TA accommodation and associated areas (e.g. coordinate cleaning and maintenance through the appropriate Contractors).
- Provide specified caretaker functions at designated training areas and ranges.
- Manage first response bushfire fighting capability to designated Training Areas and Ranges, including the provision of designated fire fighting vehicles, equipment and crews.

**About you**:

- Qualifications in Horticulture or relevant years of experience.
- Chemical Application Certificate,
- Experience in Environmental Grounds Maintenance.
- Experience in the use of Grounds Maintenance machinery such as: Ride on mowers, Tractors, Brush Cutters etc.
- Experience with using a chainsaw.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Sound problem solving, organising and time management skills.
