St George Christian School is opening a new gallery space in a heritage listed Chapel at their Hurstville Campus. The Visual Arts and Gallery Assistant is a new role providing support to the Visual Arts Teaching Team and assistance with the Gallery exhibition and outreach program. The applicant must be prepared to assist with a wide range of duties, with some exhibitions and events requiring work after hours. This new role is an opportunity for a person who is passionate about the arts to positively contribute to the development of the school’s creative culture.

This staff member must meet the general school requirements of being a committed, practising evangelical Christian who is in full agreement with the school’s Confession of Faith.

Key Responsibilities:

- Assist in the preparation of Visual Arts lessons using various art mediums, equipment, and practices.
- Assist with practical Visual Arts lessons as required.
- Maintain and organise classrooms and storerooms including general cleanliness.
- Prepare, mount, and hang students’ art works for classroom and school displays and external exhibitions.
Photograph classroom learning for school promotions.
- Assist with administrative duties relating to Gallery’s exhibition and outreach programs.
- Provide front-line service for the Gallery during major exhibitions and events for the school community including students(K-12), staff, parents, the public and key stakeholders.
- Assist in the creation of social media and website content for the Gallery.
- Assist with the preparation, installation and de-install of exhibitions. Ability to manage lifting, carrying, standing and moving around with install and de-install of exhibitions.
- Ability and willingness to work irregular additional shifts and overtime during major exhibitions.

**Skills and attributes required**:

- Experience in a Visual Arts classroom or Arts environment and/or broad understanding and interest in education or the arts field.
- Knowledge and skills using artmaking materials, techniques and material brands and art suppliers
Familiarity with a range of art mediums, such as painting, printmaking, drawing, digital photography, ceramics and sculpture.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, content management systems, and social media platforms, design, and publishing software (WordPress an advantage)
- Strong time management and prioritising skills with a high level of attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
- Strong commitment to deliver quality customer-focused experiences.
- Self-motivated, enthusiastic and can demonstrate a positive work ethic.
- Professional in conduct, presentation and behaviour.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a busy creative environment.
- Trustworthy when dealing with confidential and sensitive information.
- Current Working with Children’s check

**Desirable, not essential requirements**:
Relevant tertiary qualifications in Visual Arts, Arts Management, Art Curatorship, Communications or Graphic Design.

This is a Permanent Part Time role working 3 days per week - 8.00am to 4.00pm during term time only. Salary and conditions are consistent with the NSW Christian Schools General Staff Multi - Enterprise Agreement 2020-2023. Full Job Description available on our website.
