Transport Planner

Modal Planning is a Division within the Department of Transport, and is responsible for bringing together the planning for the rail, bus, tram, active transport and strategic road network into one team to deliver on our objective of simple, connected journeys. This role is within the Bus and Tram Planning team.
Victoria's recently endorsed Bus Plan sets out how we will start to deliver a modern, productive, environmentally sustainable bus network that increases the number of people choosing to take the bus by delivering simple, safe, reliable and comfortable journeys.
Our plan doesn't just focus on bus network changes, it prioritises the system as a whole, bringing together opportunities across the networks, bus fleet, performance, commercial, innovation and customer experience.
About the Role
Position Outcomes
- Contribute to the development of business cases for further investment in on road public transport services and infrastructure including developing and costing service upgrades.
- Support the development of service proposals, with a strong focus on customer outcomes and network integration.Analyse existing and proposed on road public transport service provision including assessment of customer demand, capacity requirements, infrastructure requirements, rolling stock impacts, travel times, cost estimates and modal coordination.
- Collaborate and build strong relationships within DoT and the Public Transport Planning team as well as with internal and external stakeholders, when developing plans and when moving to the implementation phase.
- Assist in the development of medium and long-term plans for future on road public transport service provision in an integrated public transport network.
- Promote and support safe, inclusive and flexible team operations.
Qualifications and Experience
Mandatory
- A relevant tertiary qualification or experience in a Transport Planning related field.
Desirable
- Knowledge of the Victorian public transport system
- Experience and understanding of the bus system and industry
- Experience in using transport service planning software such as HASTUS, Austrics, Remix or TrainOps, and MapInfo or other GIS software
Role Specific Requirement.
- Driver's License (C Class)
- Some out of hours work may be required.
- Travel to regional Victoria will be required, with occasional overnight stays.
