Forensics Officer

**About the role**:
Victoria Police will be replacing and expanding its fleet of preliminary alcohol breath testing devices (PBTs) to support and enhance efforts to reduce impaired drivers on Victoria's roads. This FO4 Forensic Officer will work within the Road Policing Drug & Alcohol Section (RPDAS) laboratory and with the Road Policing Projects Division (RPPD) on the implementation of this replacement project. They will be responsible for providing technical expertise on the evaluation testing, specification of service and maintenance requirements and device rollout.
They will report to the RPDAS laboratory manager and work closely with laboratory and RPPD staff.

**Your duties will include**:
- Support the finalisation of the technical and business requirements for the replacement new PBT fleet.
- Support the planning and evaluation of operational trials of shortlisted devices.
- Support the technical assessment of shortlisted devices against Australian Standard (AS) 3547:2019 and Victoria Police specific requirements.
- Support the identification, testing and implementation of refinements needed to the final instrument setup with the preferred supplier.
- Evaluate the training needs for members and support the development of training materials.
- Work with RPDAS Laboratory to implement the device distribution plan and de-commissioning of retired devices.
- Work with RPDAS Laboratory to prepare devices for distribution and oversee rollout.
**As the successful applicant, you will have**:
- Familiarisation with alcohol breath testing devices.
- Experience with testing/evaluation of measurement devices against set criteria.
- Ability to work as part of a technical team, and relay technical information to non-technical people.
- Establish and maintain technical data and records, and produce reports outlining findings and outcomes.
