The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry seeks a reliable and flexible kennel attendant with experience in caring for working dogs. The position is for** up to **37.5 hrs per week** with regular weekend work **on an ongoing** casual basis**.
**We are looking for applicants who can demonstrate the following experience**:
- Current C Class Drivers Licence
- Australian citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
- Experience handling and caring for working dogs preferably in a kennel environment
- Sound knowledge and understanding of canine behaviour and interaction
- Excellent self-driven communication that compliments a shift-work team with a changing roster
- Ability to work unsupervised including being self-motivated and content to work alone
- Keen to learn or possess basic knowledge of canine scent work.
**As a Kennel attendant your responsibilities will include but not be limited to**:
- Cleaning kennels and yards
- Observe and report on health and/or behavioural abnormalities in our dogs
- Exercise dogs by providing a range of suitable activities such as walking
- K9 Health Checks: wash, nail clipping, ear cleaning, administer oral medications
- Arrange and attend veterinary appointments
- Maintain kennel records and update spreadsheets, experience using Microsoft software is required
- Monitor and report on the facility's general maintenance requirements. Escalate as required.
- Maintains and facilitates the servicing of departmental vehicles
- Confident driving different vehicles
- Stock control, obtaining quotes and placing orders, collecting goods and reconciling expenses
- Supervise external contractors at the facility
- Attend monthly team meetings
