Our client a Government Department are looking to appoint a Media and Communications Advisor on a temporary basis. This department plays a crucial role in delivering key services and programs to the community, and your role will contribute to effectively communicating the department's initiatives and achievements to the public.

**Your new role**

As a Media and Communications Advisor at an AS05/6 level, you will be responsible for developing and implementing media and communication plans to promote the department's activities and enhance its public image. You will work closely with internal stakeholders, including senior executives and program managers, to gather information and identify key messages that need to be communicated to the public and other relevant stakeholders.

**Key responsibilities of your role will include**:

- Developing and executing media relations strategies to ensure positive coverage of the department's initiatives in print, broadcast, and digital media.
- Writing and editing press releases, media statements, speeches, and other communication materials to effectively convey key messages and maintain consistent branding.
- Building and maintaining relationships with journalists, media outlets, and other external stakeholders to facilitate media coverage and respond to media inquiries.
- Managing the department's social media presence, including creating engaging content, monitoring comments and messages, and analysing performance metrics.
- Providing advice and support to internal stakeholders on media and communication matters, including crisis communication and issues management.
- Assisting in the organisation and coordination of public events, media conferences, and other promotional activities.
- Monitoring and analysing media coverage and public sentiment related to the department's activities and providing regular reports and recommendations to senior management.

**What you'll need to succeed**

To be considered for this role, you will have:

- Proven experience in media and communications roles, preferably within a government or public sector environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for different audiences and media channels.
- Strong media relations skills and the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with journalists and media outlets.
- Experience in developing and implementing communication strategies and plans.
- Demonstrated skills in writing and editing press releases, media statements, speeches, and other communication materials.
- Knowledge of social media platforms and experience in managing social media accounts for organisational purposes.
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and provide timely and strategic advice on media and communication matters.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
- A proactive and results-oriented approach with a strong attention to detail.
- A National Police Check (NPC) clearance.
